Notifications or alerts along with just about anything that interrupts whatever you may be doing at that time can be a source of stress. The psychology behind this has been well known and there are things you need to do to protect yourself from notification overload.
Whenever I feel that Im getting swamped with more alerts/notifications than I can handle, I take a step back and apply the following:
is this alert real (i.e. not a false positive)
is this the right time for this alert (are we in a service period)
maybe we give it a little time (some things naturally resolve themselves, so delay a bit)
average things out (apply averaging before generating alerts, peaks often times are just that, temporary peaks in usage)
